In order to make the city center of Emmen more attractive, the central square of the city center, the "Centrumsplein" and the "Boulevard Noord" were redesigned. The focus of the redesign is a spectacular lighting concept that creatively combines the landscape planning and urban elements. The illumination of trees and hedges, for example, is placed in such a way that the foliage casts different shadows every day.
At the renowned City People Light Award, Emmen and its innovative lighting concept were awarded the audience prize and the third prize of the jury.
