Holistic lighting design

The Dietrich Oppenberg Haus in Essen is the home of the Neue Ruhr Zeitung/Neue Rhein Zeitung (NRZ) and named after the founder of the media company. Just a three-minute walk from the main railway station, the building sets standards not only in architecture but also in lighting design.

Designed by the architectural firm "Malter & Architects", the urban highlight captivates with its unusual combination of two geometric structures - a semi-circular
glass core and an attached rectangular cuboid with a transparent perforated facade of light sandstone.

The facade is divided vertically and horizontally by 26 metres of LEDLUX LED lines and RGB and RGBW from InstaLighting. With the help of a LEDTRIX control system, dynamic light scenes are visible on the facade in the evening hours, enhancing the special character of the architecture. OGL floor lines take up the facade design and use grazing light to accentuate the facade made of sandstone, steel and glass.

The installation is an update of the original lighting system by InstaLighting from 2005. In order to preserve the character of the facade, the new LEDs were adapted to the brightness of the original luminaires.
