Lighting in museums is one of the most challenging tasks for lighting designers. The staging and protection of the exhibited works, colour rendering index, atmosphere of the room and architecture as well as the quality of stay must interact perfectly so that works of art can unfold their full power.
Light for museums means precision. Each work of art creates its own world of colours, details and materials. InstaLighting's lighting tools bring out these qualities and support the high-quality realisation of curatorial concepts.
Natural light is perceived by the human eye as perfect light for the colour rendering index, as sunlight covers all wavelengths between 380 and 700 nanometres (nm) without any gaps. The colour rendering index CRI indicates how evenly an artificial light source renders the colour spectrum and how similar it is to natural light. The best CRI value is 100, which corresponds to natural sunlight.
Strata's spotlights achieve a uniform colour rendering index (CRI) of 98
Changing exhibitions demand maximum flexibility from the lighting tools used - oil paintings require different light than sculptures or works on paper. However, the curatorial and design concept of an exhibition also depends on the design and staging of light: should contrasts be created, should rooms shine with uniform brightness or should certain objects be emphasised to draw the attention of visitors? InstaLighting specialises in the development of modular lighting concepts. Thanks to a wide range of accessories, interchangeable optics and flexible, digital control, the light can be customised to meet any requirement.
Contour spotlights allow objects to emerge from the exhibition space and separate objects from their surroundings. In this way, targeted stagings and dramatic moments can be created in which visitors enter into a new relationship with a work, which combine with the spatial experience to create a holistic experience.
Sculpture lenses
For precise illumination of portrait and landscape format objects.
Zoom optics (14°-48°)
Infinitely variable adjustment of the beam angle without having to replace the luminaire.
Surface design with wallwasher
Uniform illumination
for wall texts or large-scale wall designs.
Objects of different sizes in dynamic arrangements, different colours, textures or surfaces need to be set in the right light. A wide range of interchangeable optics and the adaptability of brightness and light colour make it possible to achieve the most diverse objectives when illuminating works of art.
